Torrance Police Shoot Woman Who Tried Ramming Them In Car
Torrance police shoot and kill a woman who they are scared might hit a child walking home from school.
On 10/31/2016 Torrance police received reports of a reckless driver near Arlington and Post avenues. 39-year-old Michelle Shirley, who was believed to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, was driving her car on the wrong side of the road.
Police located Shirley and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Shirley refused to stop her vehicle and continued to drive erratically, so police conducted a PIT maneuver. Police were successfully at momentarily stopping Shirley and blocking her in. They surrounded her and ordered her to step out of her vehicle.
Shirley accelerated her vehicle and rammed Torrance police vehicles. Several of the officers open fire, killing Shirley. One officer was injured during the incident.
