Battle Axe Wielding Laronda Sweatt Shot by Gallatin Police
Laronda Sweatt was coming at officers with a double sided axe when shot and killed by Gallatin, TN police.
On 04/06/2016 Sumner County Sheriff’s Office deputy Gary Pickard was assisting housing authorities with an eviction. 40-year-old Laronda Sweatt became agitated and combative sometime during the eviction.
Sweatt injured deputy Pickard with a double sided battle axe. The deputy ran back to his patrol vehicle and radioed for backup. Three Gallatin Police Department officers arrived on scene.
The first Gallatin police officer on scene was approached by Sweatt, who was still wielding the axe. The officer gave several commands to drop the axe before firing two shots, fatally wounding Sweatt.
